Theme park

Imagithon: Deja Reveria, Forest of the Fae

Project: Imagithon Challenge, Fall 2020 (founded by Alex Kaplan)

Mentors: Cynthia Sharpe and Chris Bradley

Team: Kelly Bailey, Evan Forman, Ten Francis, CJ Gohl, Alyssa Gonzales, Josh Moran, and Scott Schmander

What is Imagithon?

Imagithon grew quickly from humble beginnings, and started with a LinkedIn post made by Alex Kaplan where she asked if anyone in the Themed Entertainment world would like to work on a portfolio piece together, and the response was overwhelming. The project grew into a full-fledged Collaborative Studio Simulation, with four teams working on two theme parks. I was one of three Concept Artists/3D Modelers on my team, and I joined the project just after the completion of Blue Sky. We worked on a team with graphic designers, show writers, a producer, and two mentors to develop storylines for three attractions, guest interactives (including take-home interactive products), overarching theme, and extensive area development. We presented our work to a panel of industry experts in December of 2020

The full list of illustrious mentors includes Kathy Dixon, Cynthia Sharpe, Patrick Kling, Andy Garfield, Andrew Porter, Michelle Hicks, Michael Libby, Xavier Treto, RJ Silva, Jaime Bartkowicz, Bill Kivi, and Chris Bradley.

Project Brief:

“An eccentric billionaire developer is looking to utilize the existing infrastructure form the long abandoned Amusement Park in New Orleans to make their dent within the theme park industry. They imagine this to be next-level immersion and they have a few requests.

  • They want a diverse set of perspectives involved in the project

  • The experience should start at home, and monetize the at-home pre- and post-park experience

  • The park has an older demographic, geared to teens and adults, and various themes and tones may be explored

  • Experience should include guest agency and integrate latest trends in other industries

  • The Theme Park story should be compelling enough to launch its own franchise, with integrated content in other mediums

  • The park should be designed with COVID-19 in mind (experience should be easily flippable to accommodate social distancing)”

Story of Deja Reveria and Forest of the Fae:

Deja Reveria is a world of myths and folklore - the last vestige of a world where believing is seeing and you have the power to bring legends to life.

The telling and retelling of folktales over time invoked an ancient magic that brought these stories to life in a thriving realm known as Reveria. However, new mindsets and modern technologies caused a decline in the sharing of cultural folklore until the link between our world and Reveria was severed forever. Desperate to save their dying reality, six leaders of Reveria - the patrons - used their last vestiges of magic to open a portal to our world in hopes of reigniting our love of storytelling and bringing new life to their home.

The six lands of Deja Reveria - Forest of the Fae, Spirits’ Crossing, Corsair Cove, Hollow Gardens, Eventide Grotto, and Rumshuckle Junction - each offer their own unique sights, experiences, and surprises. The Forest of the Fae is most notably the birthplace and home of the Feu Follet - mischievous spirits of storytelling and imagination, now responsible for the salvation of their entire reality. They travel the world to find l’essence, or the essence of storytelling, and having you in their home is a big moment for them! Their forest is full of interactives that allow you to create your own adventure, as well as E-Ticket, D-Ticket, and C-Ticket attractions, an underground bar, a lilypad viewing area for our nighttime spectacular, and a meet and greet with the Feu Follet innovator, Lazlo himself.

The portal is open, and the story is yours! Welcome to Deja Reveria.

Beyond the Forest

We also had an additional team that developed entertainment for the park, including a nighttime lagoon spectacular, an interactive meet and greet, and an exciting pirate stunt show that would happen inside of a land from Blue Sky called Corsair Cove - a land of spectral pirates and dashing legends, lead by famed Louisiana pirate Jean Lafitte . The pirate show evolved into the Swashbuckler Stunt Show, and as part of my role on the team, I created the key art shown below.
